The realization that nothing is enduring can be a beginning of stress for some people as change may come as a complete surprise. Many individuals react to change with denial and decline to acknowledge it.

At times, people move from surprise, and often self-denial, to a reasonable understanding of change and might see that change is actually needed in particular situations because there are reasons why it goes on.
